In the sacrament of baptism, we promise to do these things for the children and youth God has entrusted to us:
- Live with them among God’s faithful people
- Bring them to the word of God and the holy supper
- Teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments
- Place in their hands the holy scriptures
- Nurture them in faith and prayer
Children of any age (yourself included) may come to the waters of baptism, where their grown-ups, sponsors, and this community affirm God’s claim that they are God’s beloved child. Ask Pastor Valerie or Pastor Dan about planning this sacrament.
Prayground & Calm Room
The Prayground is a place on the left side of the sanctuary with soft toys, mats, and pillows, as well as coloring books and other quiet activities, that bring together play and worship for infants and toddlers.
The Calm (aka, “Cry”) Room is a place on the right side, before the sanctuary doors, where your family may find more privacy. There are comfy chairs, blankets, and a sink for washing up.
Even so, know that there are many “church” aunties, uncles, and grandparents in our community for whom your child’s voice, even if it is upset, brings deep joy and happy memories. Please let us help you when you need it.
We are here for you
This is a time for children to hear a message especially for them from Pastor Valerie or Pastor Dan at the beginning of the “Word” part of the service.
Currently, we do this at the 11am service, because, well, we know it’s sometimes work to get kids out of bed on the weekend. If the 8:45am service works better for you and your children, please connect with our pastors. They’ll be happy to plan for you.
Following the Children’s Sermon at the 11am service, a separate teaching time is offered for children ages ~3-8 years old. They will return to the worship service during the sharing of peace, and may receive a blessing or bread and juice during the Eucharist, according to their grown-ups preferences.
We are blessed to employ two exceptionally talented staff musicians. Organist/pianist Paul Woodring (8:45am service) and saxophonist Dave Becker (11am service) are eager to help your children (and you!) learn and practice the deep repertoire of sacred traditional and contemporary Christian music.
In worship, we cherish the ‘joy’ part of the Psalms’ message to “make a joyful noise”. Whatever their (or your) level of skill, all are welcome with us. (Hint: everyone gets better with practice!)
At our 11am service, children and their grown-ups are invited to come for the Sending Song to the stage on the right side of the sanctuary – play an instrument, or sing, or dance!
Children and youth age ~8 and up are encouraged to explore their interests and develop their skills through the many leadership roles that our worship service offers. We will give good training so they can feel confident to share their gifts.
At 10am during the school year, we offer play-based learning of Bible stories and music for children of all ages.
Pastor Dan Carlson oversees our Confirmation program for middle-schoolers and others who are diving deeper into their understanding of this faith.
It’s not too late to join our group of high-schoolers heading to this summer’s Lutheran Youth Gathering. Connect with Pastor Dan to get in on the fun!
