Children & Teen (CAT)
Worship for Kids
Live with them among God’s faithful peopleIn the sacrament of baptism, we promise to do these things for the children and youth God has entrusted to us:
- Bring them to the word of God and the holy supper
- Teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments
- Place in their hands the holy scriptures
- Nurture them in faith and prayer
Our activities focus on regular weekly Worship and Education, as well as fun Special Events.
Worship
Baptism
Children of any age (yourself included) may come to the waters of baptism, where their grown-ups, sponsors, and this community affirm God’s claim that they are God’s beloved child.
Calm Room
The Calm Room is a place on the right side, before the sanctuary doors, where your family may find more privacy. There are comfy chairs, blankets, and a sink for washing up.
Even so, know that there are many “church” aunties, uncles, and grandparents in our community for whom your child’s voice, even if it is upset, brings deep joy and happy memories. Please let us help you when you need it.
We are here for you
Children’s Sermon
This is a time for children to hear a message especially for them at the beginning of the “Word” part of the service.
Children’s Church
Following the Children’s Sermon, a separate teaching time is offered for children ages ~3-8 years old during the school year. They will return to the worship service during the sharing of peace, and may receive a blessing or bread and juice during the Eucharist, according to their grown-ups’ preferences.
Music
We are blessed to employ two exceptionally talented staff musicians. Organist/pianist Paul Woodring and saxophonist Dave Becker are eager to help your children (and you!) learn and practice our repertoire of traditional and contemporary Christian music.
In worship, we cherish the ‘joy’ part of the Psalms’ message to “make a joyful noise”. Whatever their (or your) level of skill, all are welcome with us. (Hint: everyone gets better with practice!)
At the end of the service, children and their grown-ups are invited to come for the Sending Song to the stage on the right side of the sanctuary – play an instrument, or sing, or dance!
Worship Volunteers
Children and youth age ~8 and up are encouraged to explore their interests and develop their skills through the many leadership roles—such as serving as an acolyte, lector or communion assistant—that our worship service offers. We will give good training so they can feel confident to share their gifts.
Education
Sunday School
During the school year, we offer play-based learning of Bible stories and music for children of all ages.
Confirmation
Confirmation program for middle-schoolers and others who are diving deeper into their understanding of this faith.
